Thank you for your concern regarding the animals rescued from the privately owned animal menagerie in Zanesville on October 18, 2011.
Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and the Wilds are working to preserve the lives of the three leopards, two Celebes macaques, and one young grizzly bear that were transported to the Zoo and are in quarantine. Your donation will assist in defraying costs for the relocation, care and rehabilitation of the animals currently in our care for as long as we have them.
Ohio needs strong and enforceable laws regarding exotic animals. We are meeting (and have been meeting prior to the October 18th tragedy) with the Governor’s Office and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to aggressively draft a framework for permanent legislation. This framework will be given to the legislature by the end of December at the very latest.
