LED Lights - Brighter and Greener!

In 2008, through the generous assistance of American Electric Power, the Zoo embarked on a two-year project to convert our three million conventional holiday lights to LED lights.

That sounds cool, but what’s the big deal with LED lights?

LED (which stands for light emitting diode) lights, use only 0.08 watts per bulb compared to 0.48 watts per conventional incandescent mini-light. So there’s a lot less energy used. LED lights also have a longer life span than conventional lights – they can last up to 200,000 hours, instead of the typical 26,000 hours for conventional lights. LED lights are also safer – they don’t get hot to the touch like conventional bulbs.

By switching to LED lights, the Zoo uses less energy, generate less waste, and creates a safer holiday environment. And the bonus is, LED lights are BRIGHTER than conventional lights, too – so they light up the Zoo better than ever before!

Converting our lights to LED was a simple switch, with incredible results. And it’s truly made Wildlights brighter and greener than ever before!
